A replacement for an older TRS radio shack model which still works but uses too many batteries. This unit will also take an AC power. Thx !!!

Nice little radio that gets good reception, a few local stations here come in better on this than my bigger boombox. easy to carry around and uses D size batteries that most of us can't find a use for now. The shortwave is decent as well. Easy to use and handy to have around.

Best feature is 400 hours on 3 d-cells.

It has excellent shortwave coverage and out of the box I was able to receive 8 English stations worldwide including a station in Italy.

This is a great emergency radio because of the 400 hours battery life.

I am buying one for all my close friends!

I have collected a dozen or so Shortwave radios in the under $50.00 price range over the past 20 years. I still have several, including my go to , a Tecsun R9012. The J15 is more comparable in size to my digital Coby CR21, but the Coby, in spite of the larger speaker, has low audio volume and the digital tuning aspect makes it harder to scan and locate stations SW. Here the JS15 shines. It has very decent audio for this size portable. It pulls in stations very well on AM and SW, and fairly well on FM. The 9012 has much better separation, meaning powerful stations don't override other near channels as much as the JS15, but.. in open tuning spaces the JS15 is better at picking up distant stations than any of my other small portables. It actually picks up pretty much everything my Tecsun PL600, a more expensive and full featured radio does. Overall, the JS15 has become my favorite under $50 portable.

This is a great radio at this price. It's got great reception, good sound, Although FM is not available in stereo, it still has a good, solid sound and some power. AM has good reception and picks up local stations well. Shortwave is the big surprise here. Most importantly, the two bands overlap. The end of SW1 and the beginning of SW2 overlap, so there is no dead space. It goes from 3.2 to 22.0 with no missing space. Everything in that range is open. The reception is fantastic. I've picked up some unexpected stations. The company actually sent me an email just to make sure there were no problems with the radio. There aren't but if there were, I'm sure they would have fixed it right away. Great radio. I'm very satisfied.

This Prunus J-15 is a solid well built radio with built in flashlight. Covers AM, FM, and SW 3.2 thru 22 MHz. Built in AC transformer or run on 3 D size batteries.

The sound is great, exceeded my expectations, even at higher volumes. Total volume control means it makes a great bedside radio listening at lower volumes. Also has a headphone jack. AUX in jack is a surprise bonus.

Reception: Fm is wonderful. I can actually receive a weak distant FM station between two stronger closer ones. Very good sensitivity and selectivity here. Easy to tune. Holds dialed in frequency well. No drift.

AM daytime selectivity I would rate 3/5. Could not pull in a weak distant 1kw station between two 50 kw stations. Pulls in many 50kw stations from out of town at night.

The SW allowed me to tune in all my usual favorites. Ideal for SW frequency surfing. I like that.

Prunus did a really good job here. They also make a similar looking model called the J-15 Weather radio that includes the weather band in place of SW band 3.3 to 10 MHz you see here. It depends on you. To me the SW is more important.

    Verdict: Buy one!

I bought an Eton Elite Field first which just wasn’t for me (slow tuning, picked up a lot of interference, etc.) and then I found this radio which is exactly what I was looking for. The case and handle is nice and sturdy. The audio quality is fantastic. If I tune slowly down the dial, I get all sorts of shortwave signals. It’s also a great performer on AM. It’s the first DSP non-digital readout radio I’ve had that I really enjoy using. Highly recommend!
