It is exactly as advertised and a good value for the money.

I have really enjoyed the PRUNUS J-05 radio so far. I purchased it several months ago as I wanted a sensitive radio for the bathroom that could pick up a low power (100 watt) FM station across town that my other radios could not seem to pull in easily. These other radios required lot of fussing around to position them in exactly the right spot, which usually wasn't a practical place for a radio to be. The PRUNUS J-05 does an awesome job, and effortlessly pulls in the weakeat stations really well. It may require a full extension of the antenna for weak or distant FM stations. But the radio is able to be placed in a convenient spot and pulls in the weak/distant station I wanted to listen to, crystal clear. One thing that does take a little getting used to with the PRUNUS J-05 is the fact that you get some 'ghost signals' (repetitive signals) on either side of the actual signal that you want to listen to. These signals are usually just as listenable. As others have pointed out, it is similar to an older feature called Automatic Frequency Control or AFC that automatically switches over to the stronger signal if you tuned into a less listenable signal. This is rectified by making sure to tune into the actual source signal as opposed to these other ghosts signals. But it is a very small price to pay for such a sensitive radio at such a decent price point. As with other modern portable radios that are not at a premium price point, the only casualty (if there is one) might be the quality of the AM sound that you get. The signals come in strong and again this radio is more sensitive than any other I own (or equal to my smaller Sangean). But most radios I purchased in the last 5 to 10 years seem to have given up on providing any kind of treble resolution above 3 or 4k on the AM band. Older radios provided far greater treble resolution with AM (providing almost an additional octave of treble resolution). This is probably a holdover from the days when AM radio was still very viable for music (Top 40). But I guess I am showing my age here. A premium radio like the Crosley that I own sounds wonderful on FM and very respectable on AM, but the AM reception is basically nonexistent except for maybe a 50,000 watt Clear Channel station (and my Crosley has significant problems with AM ghost signals from way up the AM band that show up farther down the band). As others have noted, the PRUNUS J-05 is also very sensitive on the weather band. I pick up a couple of signals really well. Other radios I own with the weather band in the house can barely pick up one.As far is overall sound quality, the radio has a very decent sound quality, especially for FM talk radio. I find it has a decent amount of top end brilliance (on FM) that makes voices really stand out. Again, on AM radio there is not really high end to speak of. But the PRUNUS J-05 has a full sound that will project and definitely gets the job done. it has a pretty robust volume level, where it will project farther than any other radio I have in the house, save for my home stereo. Out of the box it may sound more brilliant than full, but give it time. It will eventually break in and the bottom end will get richer sounding, complimenting the top end.I highly recommend the PRUNUS J-05 and I would buy it again.

This is an eminently listenable radio. One may take it anywhere. I listen to AM, FM, and SHORTWAVE. Excellent and accurate tuning; pleasing audio, and a line in to listen to MP3’s and your phone or tablet. THIS RADIO GROWS ON YOU!! Buy it now and send me an apple.

This is about the same size as my Fire 8 tablet, though much thicker. Most of that space is the speaker and the battery compartment. This thing has an actual volume wheel (yay), and the station setting is via a knob (small knurl in the middle for finger twirling, large knurl around the rim for fine tuning - same knob). If you want to keep track of station presets take a sharpie and make a dot. There are lots of nice things about old school controls - you can use them in the dark, for example, and if they break I have a prayer of fixing them (potentiometers do build up oxidation over the years). The flashlight is kind of weak, and the shortwave will require clear space and some antenna fussing. Still a great radio.

This portable radio does what it says it does and the small size couldn’t be anymore perfect to carry around. I also think the flashlight on it is nice.

I used it to replace an old radio I had in the bathroom to play while I showered, shaved, etc. Great sound, plenty of volume, takes up very little space.

What makes this a good portable radio is that it can use two source of energy , batteries and AC power cord. There is flashlight built into the radio which I think will be good for emergencies ,like when the power goes out. The telescopic antenna ensure you can pick up any radio station in your area. The radio is easily tuned, the station numbers are easy to see. You can play music or audio books by connecting it to a mp3 player or a cell phone. The connection works no matter what bandwidth you are on. It also has an earphone jack. You have to proved your own earphone and aux cable, the radio do not come with these things. Never the less it is just right size radio for your traveling needs.

This Prunus radio has good DSP reception on the AM and FM bands. It has a pleasant sounding speaker and features solid construction. Operates on both AC and three D batteries. Includes a flashlight making it a good emergency radio as well as a good everyday receiver. Definitely worth the price.

It was just what I was looking for. Not too big and reception is great. I have a radio/CD player, but it only has FM, I wanted AM and FM. It fit the bill and the price was good. Recommend

It really is a great, multi-function radio. I had a problem with the volume being erratic in the first one and had to return it. However, the second one is functioning great and appears to be rugged.

This radio is a nice looking radio that has a nice build quality. The radio does well on AM stations as well as FM stations, The shortwave band picks up some of the stronger station and is a lot of fun to tune up and down the SW bands to see what you can find. I would say it's more of a AM FM radio with SW as a bonus. The radio runs on 3 D size batteries and should play for a very long time on them. The flashlight is bright and useful for finding your way in the dark. I do wish it had a light on the dial for tuning in the dark. The dial is big and easy to read but a added light would be nice.Al in all I would say this radio is a good buy for the price of around $20 or so.

This radio have lots of features including flashlight, FM, AM, SW1 and SW2 band. I was able to pick up stations on all bands. The price on this radio is very competitive compared to other brands. The speakers are pretty good. The only improvement that I suggest (for future models) is to make the handle able to rotate back and forth.

The Prunus J-15 is a four band portable radio, which can be used either with batteries or AC cord.Ostensibly, this unit was intended for boomers: simple analog controls, aux input for audio sources, and a flashlight that is a solid plus during power outages, like we just had here in Texas. What lies beneath the simple exterior is a very sensitive, and highly selective RF front end, which teases out weak signals, and locks in on them, providing robust, noise free, sound. There are no tone controls, as the tonal balance, which favors the older user, sounds just right, even with the volume set low: I keep mine on the local NPR station, just to get a little classical while I review patient records.Feel is solid, with a simple on-off volume control on the top, and a slow fast tune knob on the side. Other than the light and band sliding switches, that is it. This is not a multilayered nightmare. The aux input works well with my MP3 player, and there is a very nice headphone jack, which I have not used, but works properly. One positive for me is the short wave bands. I've been a short wave listener since the sixties, and this unit, even with the telescopic antenna, picks up quite a few AM stations on the 80 - 15 meter bands.I heard CRI, Radio Havana and the Vatican, without any effort. Is this a short wave listener's dream radio? No. This is a practical radio, for emergencies, or for an older listener, who finds the modern units more daunting.I would recommend this without hesitation, and I've placed it in the garage, with extra D cells (it needs three) next to it.

I was very pleasantly surprised with this radio. It sounds as good (to me) as my Sony ICF-19, as a comparison. The Attenna is nearly TWICE the size of the Sony. Ironically, with my Sony, I have to raise the attenna to get my FM stations without static. With the Prunus J-15, I do NOT have to use its attenna at all for FM. So the tuner on my Prunus is excellent.I like the volume control on top SEPARATED from the tuner knob. Why? Because on my Sony, both knobs are next to each other and sometimes I'd accidently roll the station knob instead of the volume (irritating). My Sony doesn't have a handle, while the Prunus J-15 DOES. It doesn't fold like some radios, but why does it need to? You want it ready to pick up at all times. My Sony has NO AC option, either. This one does. Both use 3 D batteries. The Prunus also an an auxillary in along with headphone input. (The Sony only has a headphone input). I'm extremely happy and can confidently recommend this radio.
